Strategic Sections

There is a finite resource available to restore Wilts & Berks Canal and it is therefore being restored by identifying significant sections and planning restoration as standalone sustainable lengths of waterway

Eventualy these sections will be joined together and the whole canal brought back to life.

Occasionally opportunities arise outside these sections and these are also brought into the restoration programme if possible.

Many of the restoration projects on the Wilts & Berks Canal are managed by the volunteers of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust.

Some of the larger projects are managed by other Local Authority members of the Partnership.

A number of the sustainable standalone sections are shown on  the map below. There are further details about the active and completed  projects in sub setions menu on the left of the screen

The Towpath Challenge involves the complete length of the canal with the aim of opening the towpath at the earliest opportunity;
