The Towpath Challenge

The  Partnership has set a challenge to reopen the canal towpath as a long distance footpath and cycleway at the earliest opportunity  and to increase  annually the amount of accessible towpath

The Partnership is particularly keen to point out that much of the canal is still in private ownership and unless you are sure about access please respect the landowners rights and do not try to follow the route of the canal unless you are certian that access is permitted.

Please contact the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust or look out for local way markers as guides.

The Long Distance Walkers Association list a route to follow the mainline of teh canal (with diversions where the towpath is not accessible) . Click here for more details
